The Power of the Waves

Who we are

Following a period of conceptualizing and planning for a new wave energy technology, JOSPA Ltd. was established in September 2008 to develop the “Irish Tube Compressor” as a technology to provide grid-competitive electricity from wave power. The founders were Joss Fitzsimons and Patrick Duffy who had many years of experience of working together before. John Duffy was a shareholder from the outset and Pat Murphy joined as a Director and shareholder from March 2011. Jospa has made considerable progress beyond that now shown on this website. It has an active patent policy with strong protection for its developments.

Joss (Technical Director) is a mechanical engineering graduate of University College Dublin (UCD) with a history of technical development, design, project management, maintenance, plant optimization and patenting. Joss is highly inventive in a very practical way and some of his patents are in use worldwide.

Patrick (Managing Director) is an electrical engineering graduate of UCD and a Fulbright scholar at U. Cal. (Berkeley) who has been a director in marketing and technical roles, as well as managing director and chairman of a number of companies in the UK and Ireland. He has experience in all continents.

Pat (Marine Director) has been a civil engineering contractor and then turned successfully to marine contracting where his company Coastal Dredging Limited has had a number of vessels and executed many contracts. He has a wealth of practical coastal marine experience including some in the renewable energy sector.

John graduated from UCD in mechanical and electrical engineering. He has been site engineer for many of the power stations in Ireland, headed the ESB (national electricity utility) generation department and retired as Technical Director of the ESB (since dismantled due to competition rules).
